House Mouse Research

  • Even when lights are constantly on, mice are still active at night.
  • Find out what this means for improved trapping of house mice.

From: Acute Behavioral Responses to Light and Darkness in Nocturnal Mus musculus and Diurnal Arvicanthis niloticus

  • Research tested different “sounds” and found some increased or decreased aggression and competition.
  • While we can’t use sound to control populations, there may be certain sounds to incorporate into management programs.

From: Influence of five types of music on social behaviors of mice, Mus musculus

  • New research shows something different. There can be more than just an adult male and a female.
  • Find out how many adults can be in a nest and what that means for trapping and baiting.

From: Care of young under communal conditions in the mouse (MUS MUSCULUS)

  • Mice readily adapt to the cold. Healthy populations were found in cold storage that did not get above freezing.
  • This means we may need house mouse control programs in many more areas and at more times of the year.

From: The reproduction of the house mouse (Mus) living in different environments.
